Life Groups
Life Groups is the name of the small group ministry at Peace Lutheran. Life Groups are home-based lay-led gatherings of 8 to 12 people who meet regularly for fellowship and Bible study. - A typical meeting lasts 90 minutes and includes Bible study and fellowship. Usually light refreshments are served.
- The groups meet as often as they like, but it is suggested that they meet at least quarterly. The meeting location is determined by the group itself.
- The groups are led by dedicated lay members who are interested in a rich study of God’s Word and want to join with others to do it.
- Materials are provided by the pastoral team. Leaders meet regularly to share ideas and for training. The course material is written in such a way that the study “leads itself” with minimal direction from the leader.
- Each leader commits to the program for one year.
- It is the goal of the ministry for all Peace members to be connected with some kind of group. All new members are invited to join a Life Group upon reception into membership. Non members can be allowed into groups upon agreement by the group members.
- The Life Groups program is the responsiblity of the Board of Adult Discipleship.
Logo Imagery:
The Life Groups logo emphasizes three important aspects of our small group program. The first is growth - the importance of growing in God’s word and our relationship with Him and others. The tree image suggests that growth.
The second aspect is the communal nature of the program. We do this “together.” The branches of the tree (us) are joining hands - all supported by our Lord with outstretched arms. This component of fellowship is an important aspect of our groups. We look forward to sharing with and supporting each other.
Finally the third imagery suggested by the logo is that of life. Of course, healthy trees are a symbol of life, much like the Christmas tree. The green color also suggests this. These small groups are not dusty gatherings studying ancient biblical texts. They are alive and vibrant, eager to study a relevant Word and apply it to our own lives right now!

Q: Do I have to have a certain level of Bible knowledge to participate?
A: No. One of the purposes of the group is to grow in Bible knowledge together and also then apply it to the lives of the members.
Q: How often and when do the groups meet?
A: The group itself determines their meeting schedule. All groups are expected to meet at least quarterly.
Q: How long do the meetings last?
A: That depends on the group. Each group will determine frequency and duration of their own meetings.
Q: What goes on at a typical meeting?
A: A typical meeting will have a Bible study with materials provided by the Peace pastoral staff. The studies are meant to be informal and conversational. It will also have some kind of social component that will likely include refreshments.

- Let’s start with the most important thing...a closer relationship with God. He tells us to seek Him in His Word. These groups study God’s Word together.
- You will enjoy very practical applications of the Bible to your life. The material is designed to be usable the minute you walk out the door.
- You will make new friends at Peace. A church is not made up of individuals, but of interconnected members. Life Groups make connections.
- You will have fun. That’s right, having fun at a Bible study. That’s because not only do you study the Bible, but you do it in an informal and personal setting. You also get to eat food.
- You as a group member, get to decide when the group meets, where they meet, and what they study. The groups run themselves.
